Permissions

To practice angling in Hungary, foreigners - similarly to Hungarian citizens - must dispose of a so-called state angling ticket and an area permission valid on the given water.

The state angling ticket (which is valid for one year and is the charter of angling) is usually available at the same place where the area permission. If for some reason this is not possible, it can be obtained from almost any angling associations. For obtaining a state angling ticket, the foreigners have to certify their fishing exam, but presenting their own angling documents and angling certificate is enough as well.

While the area permission (daily, weekly, yearly, separately for adults and for those under 18) for a given water is valid for the day or for the period indicated, the state angling ticket is valid for the whole calendar year. Upon presenting the state angling ticket, an area permission can be taken out for any water-area in the year of the issue of he ticket.

Different area permissions are valid for different water-areas. Area permissions are available from the developer and ticket distributors of the given area, in waterside settlements like in angler's shops, or often from the ticket-office right at the water.

It is to be noted that our national associations issues partial country-wide valid area permissions for the most significant angler-used waters (valid for the bigger angler-used waters) as well as general country-wide area permissions on angler-used bigger waters expanded to Lake Balaton and waters in fishing-organisation's use (these are primarily our bigger rivers -some parts of the Danube and of the river Tisza) but both with only yearly validity.

For those under 14, partial and general countrywide valid child area permission can be taken out on a yearly basis, as well. The issue of the child state angling ticket necessary for this is free of charge.

Two important pieces of information: on angler-used waters an adult angler may use two fishing rods at the same time, a junior angler (under 18 years) may use one rod, and on other types of waters usually two rods. A child angler (under 14 years) can angle with only one rod at any place. Besides the number of the rods 1 piece of Live-bait Square fishing net smaller than 1 m2 can be used.

The minimal body length that can be fished and indicated on the angling ticket refers to the distance between the peak of the nose and the beginning of the tail fin, i.e. it is not the total body length but the length of the trunk. The state angling ticket also indicates the period when angling is prohibited for each fish species in detail.

The close season may be altered on some waters rendering legal regulations more strict or alleviating them based on local features and state permissions. It is aimed to always indicate incidental individual alterations on the area permissions in the anglers' order.
